In my humble opinion, a healthy home environment means bringing Mother Nature indoors with you. Now, I don’t advocate for dirt floors and vine covered walls, but I believe there should a certain element of the “natural” world inside every room.
With this spirit in mind, let’s look at a few quick, simple, and fun ways to invite nature in with you. Not only will these help add a lively element to your home, but they will also help create a healthier environment!
Number 1. Open those Windows
The first way to lively up your home with nature is to open your windows. Simple enough, right? The idea here is to keep your room/home properly ventilated and full of fresh air. As a matter of fact, clean, fresh air is crucial to proper feng shui! This will literally keep your room feeling open and alive rather than stale and dead.
Let Mother Nature breathe life into your home!
Number 2. Potted Plant
Another great strategy for bringing nature indoors is to get yourself a potted plant (or several). These can be flowers, bamboo, or any other plant of your liking. Lucky for us, a sense of earthiness is easily accomplished regardless of size, type, or color.
Plus, indoor plants act as lungs for your home. They absorb certain pollutants that may have your home suffering from Sick Building Syndrome, a term used for buildings with poor air quality. Spider plants, peace lily, bamboo or reed palm, and English ivy are all top rated indoor plants for cleaning the air, so consider these first!
Number 3. Get a Pet!
Although this may have negative effects on air quality, getting a pet is probably the most intuitive way to bring life indoors. Cats, dogs, birds, and anything in between will be perfect for getting your home to feel more natural. Fish are a personal favorite (but to be honest, I currently live with two cats, two dogs, and zero fish).
Obviously, when you get a pet, you’re signing up for more than just a natural feeling home. You’ve got to take good care of your pet, as it is a living creature. Not to fear, though, there are many natural ways to support your pet! Why should we be the only ones protected from chemicals?
Number 4. Start an Indoor Garden
My all time most advocated strategy is to start your own garden. Not only is this going to provide you with indoor plants to filter air, but it also provides you with healthy, home grown produce that you know is organic and GMO free. Indoor gardening is simple, effective, and delicious if done properly and with a little conscious effort.
On a similar note, you can also bring a dwarf fruit tree indoors. Achieving many of the same ends, the dwarf fruit tree is easy to manage and move, making it an excellent indoor choice. Plus, it’s a great conversation starter!
