There sure are. And it is more important than ever to take an active role in your own health regarding this subject.
There are various medical treatments that are used for chelation of heavy metals such as EDTA (EthyleneDiamineTetraacetic Acid) for lead, DMSA (DiMercaptoSuccinic Acid) and/or DMPS (2,3-DiMercapto-1-Propanesulfonic Acid) for mercury. However, there are plenty of over the counter items that are available to support heavy metal and/or toxic element detoxification naturally.
Some good examples would be Cilantro, Chlorella, Garlic, N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC), Alpha Lipoic Acic, Vitamin C and Selenium.
I use a product from Xymogen called CheleX which has many of these items within the formula. It must be ordered/prescribed by a licensed healthcare provider but works quite well. The most important thing to remember about chelation is that some of these chelators (ex. DMSA and EDTA) can remove much needed minerals and so they must be replaced with adequate mineral supplementation.
*You should NEVER self prescribe chelation agents and should always seek the guidance of a healthcare provider whom is versed in the chelation treatment/application to support you in identifying toxic elements and heavy metals as well as removing them. If you would like to be sure that you are doing a good job on your own, eat at least 8 servings of fruits and veggies per day. Colors are best! Think RAINBOW diet.
