It seems we need to “tag” everything for identification purposes: our luggage, keys, lunchboxes, backpacks, and most importantly, our pets. DogWoodIDs has designed tags made from sustainable Birch wood, each a custom creation.
Jeff Heister and Michael Martinez founded DogWoodIDs in 2009 with the goal to produce the most unique, eco-friendly line of pet tags as well as provide an alternative to the cold metal tag. Made from sustainable Birch wood, each tag is unique; all are cut, engraved, and finished to your creative specifications.
To create a tag, begin by selecting a picture of a breed or design. I went straight to the design section forgoing a picture of a breed and chose a heart shape. Additional shape choices included a dog bone, baseball, paw print, peace sign and others. Next you pick a size: small, medium or large, and then the fun part, pick the text. This is where you can get really creative! The option of the large tag provides you with lots of room for text; this makes the tags versatile for many applications. In my case, I made a medium size tag for my dog, a simple heart with her name, our address and phone number. But, I would love to create luggage tags and gift tags that contain some of my favorite quotes, or simply “I Love You” – what great gifts and stocking stuffers!
The tags are affordable; for my one tag, I paid $6.95 and when you included tax and shipping the total was only $9.58. Plus, on orders of 4 or more they are $5.95 each.
I am pleased with how our tag turned out. Around my elderly dog’s neck is a warm (Birch wood), heart shaped tag with crisply engraved contact information. Now, on to creating personalized Birch wood tags for my holiday gifts this year!
