EcoStrip: Providing the Power to Protect

EcoStripEvery time you plug something in, you’re tapping into the energy grid. Even when you don’t use the appliance, you’ll slowly be leeching energy. This leads to a few different issues: first, more expenses for you; second, increased “else-where emissions”, meaning more pollution; and finally, the market force of increased demand for traditional, dirty energy (unless you’re self powered or have a stellar power company).

In all likelihood, we won’t be unplugging anytime soon, so what’s the solution to this mess? Well, EcoStrip may have exactly what we’re looking for.

What is EcoStrip?

At first, you may not be taken aback by the design of Ecostrip – a solid white bar, 6 outlets, a standard plug, and a small cable leading off the side. However, while EcoStrip may look like your standard surge protector, it really does so much more (here’s a hint: that small cable has a lot to do with it!). Although the company mentions that you need to have this for about a year to see the real savings, after plugging it in at my home and office, I can already tell that it works.

For starters, let’s understand that, yes, EcoStrip is a power strip AKA surge protector. However, with an added USB cable, the once simple surge protector becomes a medium for a more sustainable home and office.

Simply put, EcoStrip provides a great opportunity to cut back on energy use, monthly bills, and “else-where” emissions. How so? By effectively limiting and eliminating “vampire power” – that power that slowly leeches away when your devices are plugged in but you’re not using them. This “vampire power” accounts for about $11 billion in costs a year for the nation as a whole, and may even make your ordinary computer into something that uses as much energy as an energy efficient refrigerator. That’s a lot of energy (and money) used when we aren’t around.

EcoStrip is the solution, and the savings come from the attached USB cord. Once the cord is plugged into your computer, the surge protector allows power to move through. Once it is unplugged or the computer sleeps, the power will be limited. It is through the USB cord that we can find such great savings, which means more green for both us and the planet.

Why Use EcoStrip?

Given this unique approach to home power control, there are quite a few reasons to go with EcoStrip instead of a traditional power strip.

  •  Save up to $150 annually
  • Plant a Tree for the Future – EcoStrip donates a portion of every sale
  • Reduce your carbon footprint
  • 6 Outlets let you plug in all your favorite devices
  • Easy to use, no programming included

As we can see, not only with this strip pay for itself within the year, but it also comes with some great environmental benefits. Fewer emissions, more trees being planted, and more money in our pockets sounds like it’s too good to be true – lucky it is!

Power Your Home, EcoStrip Style

Next time you’ve got to get a new power strip (or even when your friends and family do), do both them and Mother Earth a favor and choose green. EcoStrip has managed to bring a simple tool to the fight against waste right into our homes, a much needed (and appreciated) innovation for the everyday consumer. In fact, I found myself wondering, “Why aren’t more power strips like this? Why must we waste power when we can save it?” It seems like the creator of EcoStrip thought the same thing and acted on it!

  1. When you put together a computer system, one piece of standard equipment you’ll probably buy is a surge protector. Most designs serve one immediately obvious function — they let you plug multiple components into one power outlet. With all of the different components that make up a computer system, this is definitely a useful device.”
