BagInspirationInspiration can come from a lot of different things. Sometimes it’s an experience, sometimes it’s a friend or family member, and sometimes, it’s a bag. That’s right – a bag.

To the creators of BagInspiration, Michelle Larson and Stefanie Kushner, bags can communicate messages deeper than one might usually think. Be it a reusable grocery bag, a purse, a lunchbox, or a simple handbag, bags are both practical in daily life and useful in teaching lessons of sustainability, recycling, conservation, and personal accountability.

Inspirational Beginnings for an Inspirational Company

The company first started growing its roots when Larson and Kushner met on a playground while playing with their children. It was September of 2000 and the two quickly grew close, becoming good friends in no time. Soon, they would be chatting about errands, daily duties, and the state of the world.

Nine years later, Michelle found herself on a family vacation in Mexico, and what sat before her eyes would spark the life that is BagInspiration. There sat a handbag made from recycled candy wrappers, being made by Mexican women. Michelle had to have it and Stefanie, who upon seeing it was equally impressed, had to have something just like it. And so began the search for sustainable, recycled-style handbags by the two – and so began BagInspiration.

The World of Inspirational Bags

Today, BagInspiration works diligently to find sustainable bags with purpose. From seatbelt bags to those made from candy wrappers or billboards, BagInspiration brings the most stylish, purposeful bags to one place, making it easy for shoppers to find great styles and not worry about the problems of greenwashing. They also actively support fair trade, making sure working people are getting working wages.

When it comes to material, the vast majority of the bags are recycled or repurposed. On occasion, though, you may find a beautiful bag made of organic fabrics. The main idea, whatever the material, is to spread awareness and make it easy to choose green, ethical products. As Michelle noted, this platform is perfect: there’s just something about bags and women – they connect. And it’s not a bad thing at all. In fact, it’s great because you can inspire and communicate through them, making conscious, beautiful shopping simple and attainable.

BagInspiration has so many styles, too. Michelle’s newest favorite is the Free Jazz Purse (which is made from recycled motorbike seats). It’s stylish, definitely unique, and makes for great conversation. (Find the rest of Michelle’s favorites on BagInspiration). Stefanie has her own taste, loving the Hobo Seatbelt Bag, a very popular bag among many people. (Find the rest of Stefanie’s favorites too!).
