Staying clean and fresh is of the utmost importance. But the majority of products on store shelves contain harmful dyes, fragrances, and unsustainably harvested ingredients. What is one to do in the pursuit of good hygiene, the all natural way?
Starting from the basics, we’ll work our way around the bathroom, looking at everything you need to stay clean while keeping a clean conscious!
Organic Suds
Let’s start with the skin. Soaps and body washes may well be the most important things in your shower. These are supposed to clean away the dirt and grime that build up during the day while nourishing the skin and revitalizing it with vital nutrients. And while some do indeed clean the skin, they often do so by using harsh chemicals that can harm sensitive skin. In fact, they can remove the natural oils our bodies produce for skin production.
That’s why you want to go organic when you choose a soap or body wash. With plant-based ingredients that are grown without the use of chemical pesticides or artificial fertilizers, even the most sensitive skin is able to reap the benefits of regular cleansing. The organic oils found in body washes and soaps promote healthy, natural moisturizing throughout the day, and the natural aromatherapy can even boost your mood!
Hair Care Essentials
Just like the abundance of soaps in the store, your hair care products are filled with synthetic chemicals and petroleum based polymers. These can weaken hair, irritate the scalp, and lead to dandruff or other hair and scalp problems down the road. Luckily, organic products provide a healthy alternative!
Not only do 100 percent natural, organic, and/or vegan hair products keep your hair and scalp healthy and free of chemicals, but they also are excellent at cleaning, often outperforming the conventional alternatives. The same principles from above apply: with artificial ingredients, your skin and hair will often have a negative reaction, but with organic, natural ingredients, your skin and hair will reap the benefits and reflect the healthy environment you create.
You’ll decrease the risk of allergic reaction and the likelihood of skin and hair irritations while giving a boost to the health and longevity of your hair. Look for organic products with healthy essential oils and plant based ingredients!
Keeping a Clean Mouth
Last off, you should always have a clean mouth. Despite many people considering this a no fly zone with organic, the healthy alternative once again proves to be the best method. Many mainstream toothpastes include ingredients like Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, which can dry out your mouth and cause canker sores. The abundance of chemicals like this is why it is so important not to swallow your toothpaste.
When it comes to organic, you get the same powerful cleaning without the use of dangerous chemicals. Aloe Vera will help prevent gingivitis, Parsley will help freshen the breath due to its high chlorophyll content, and thyme serves as an antiseptic and antifungal.
Benefits Beyond the Body
Although we’ve seen a number of benefits with one’s own body health, organic hygiene products remain to have other benefits as well. First, they are less harsh on the environment – no chemicals are leeching down the drain as they’ve been effectively removed from the system. Likewise, the ingredients – being all organic – are harvested sustainably and ethically, without the use of synthetics, which is another huge perk for the environment.
Finally, by using organic alternatives, you’re support the movement and philosophy of organic living, a philosophy that argues we must be aware of what we are putting on ourselves and our planet. Many of the best products are also small business based, meaning you’re supporting the Jones family from down the street, not some ultra large superstore.

As someone who has always been mindful of what I ate regarding organic, grass fed beef, pesticide free produce and so forth, I absolutely FELL IN LOVE with Arbonne International products! They are not COMPLETELY organic, but all natural nonetheless! And they work wonders with whatever skin, hair, cosmetic or nutritional need I have had. I even started selling them, just as supplemental income, and if anyone has any questions or anything, I’d love to tell you more about it! People aren’t always as aware of what they put on their skin, hair, etc. as they are of what they eat. But what we put ON our bodies can cause just as much damage as what we put IN them!! Great article!

Gave up skin lotions for liquid vitamin e oil, my skin has never look better. I use crushed almond soap made locally and tea tree oil shampoo from the health food store. I also wash my clothes/dishes in baking soda.

My gums did not bleed at all when brushing yesterday. That time, I used
just the Brushing Blend without toothpaste. It has not taken long for the
bleeding to stop, even though my gums are seriously separated from the
teeth in some spots. I am sold on the stuff. Thank you!
