Healthy PetTaking care of your body is important, no doubt. At the same time, it’s important to take care of those you care about. That includes your pets! The same toxins, chemicals, and dietary concerns apply, which is why you want to pick the best for you pets!

Here’s a list of 4 tips for your pets – everything from healthy cleaning to safe toys!

Cleaning

First off, you want to avoid any shampoos and conditioners with harsh chemical ingredients. It’s the same principle you want to take for yourself – and interestingly enough, you’ll find some of the ingredients you prefer also in your pet’s mix!

Look for natural alternatives that use eucalyptus, lavender, tea tree oil, and peppermint. Of course, you can also find organic based shampoos and conditioners, some of which are even based with Aloe Vera. These products will be great for your pet, the environment, and you while you wash your pet. All around, only choose the best for your pet.

One final benefit is that most organic or natural based shampoos and conditioners are competitively priced, which means you won’t be paying much more than you otherwise would! Check our Organic Oscar for a great source!

Anti Flea and Tick

Ready for some great news? If you’re using shampoos and conditioners like those above, you’ll actually be in a great position to fight fleas and ticks. Shampoos with lavender, for example, are natural insect repellents!

Another great idea is using some tea tree oil mixed with water in a spray bottle. Like lavender, tea tree oil is a natural insect repellent. You can use this spray on your pet and your carpet (if you have “floor” fleas). This also works for ticks! Dab some Q-tips in tea tree oil and apply to the tick – usually they’ll disattach right away!

Here are some other natural insect repellents: cedar oil, eucalyptus, and neem oil.

Organic Food

Once your pet is clean and insect free, you want to be sure his or her food is also healthy. What are the benefits? First off, your pet will see the same benefits you do when eating organic: they’ll avoid the synthetic pesticides, artificial fertilizers, and genetically modified ingredients. This means an overall better quality of life, better health, and stronger immunity. In addition to that, your pet will also look and feel better. With smoother hair, fewer digestive problems,  and better skin and teeth, your pets will be loving the benefits of organic food!

How can it get any better? A healthy diet of fresh food, not processed food, can also help ward away fleas and ticks. Avoid the byproducts and chemicals found in many store brands. Fleas and ticks will always target animals with excessive sugar and carbohydrates in their system. Get organic, natural dog food that is hearty in fresh ingredients!

Safe Toys

Just like your own toys (or perhaps your child’s toys), your pets toys can be made from unsustainable, unsafe materials. That’s why it’s good to go with natural, safe, and sustainable toys. Just like your food, you can get organic dog and cat chewable toys. Likewise, you can get toys made with organic and sustainably grown fibers. Plus, just like feeding them right, getting them the right toys can help strengthen their teeth and gums!

From what I’ve heard, many pets have particular tastes and sometimes you have to do some shopping around to find the right toy, but that’s usually how it is with anyone!
