Living happy is synonymous with living healthy (and vice versa). But it’s not always as easy as just saying you’re going to be “healthier” from now on. Instead, there’s a lot of planning and effort that must go into it…right?
Well, not necessarily. Here are five tips that are easy, effective, and cheap. In fact, following these tips may even save you money over time, depending on your current habits and lifestyle. One thing is for sure though: in no time, you’ll be feeling healthier, happier, and more excited to take on the day.
Number 1. Drink LOTS of Water
Healthy living starts with proper hydration. If you want to start feeling more energized and more alert, drink more water. This isn’t because water itself has some amazing nutritional value. Instead, we know this is so beneficial because our bodies rely so much on water, especially our brain. Staying properly hydrated is especially important if you’re exercising (another ‘must’ on our list)! Shoot for 8 or more cups a day, especially if you’re exercising.

Number 2. Eat those Fruits and Veggies
Skipping on the greens is never a good idea. By being sure you’re getting dark leafy greens and bright colored fruits and vegetables each day, you’re body will naturally become healthier and more manageable, especially if these foods are replacing fast foods. Try to get 30-50 percent of your meals raw – that’s a lot of salads, apples, and broccoli!
This will ensure that you’re getting the nutrients your body needs. The vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants are critical in the proper upkeep of our body and its immune system.
Number 3. Exercise Moderately for At Least an Hour
The pathway to better living takes you through the gym. Now, I advocate getting outdoors and interacting with the world when exercising, but that little saying will work for now. When it comes down to it, wanting to live healthier requires one to give up some time and devote it to the body. Proper nutrition and hydration are critical, but so is exercise. Depending on what your goals are, develop an exercise regimen that puts you on the right track!
Do the same with the mind. Read as much as you can and intellectually exercise. This is harder to measure in regards to progress, which may be why it is occasionally overlooked in better living articles. Whatever may be the reason, know that fulfillment comes from more areas than just the body!
Number 4. Get 8 Hours of Sleep…really.
I understand – it seems like everyone is always saying how they need (or you need) more sleep. But there may be some truth to this, and that’s why you’ve got to take sleep seriously. Work at getting at least 8 hours of sleep a day! This leads to better mental and physical health (and with quick results). Besides, if you take step 3 seriously, you’ll probably start feeling a bit more ready for bed at the end of the day. The nice thing is, though, that you wake up feeling great and ready for more!
Number 5. Have Fun
People often ask, “How can you make having fun a habit?” I reply, “By doing what you want to do! Devote some time in your day to a hobby, favorite TV show, or family. Whatever makes you happy, be sure to do it everyday.” Having fun is a great way to relax, unwind, and cheer yourself up. Whatever it is, it may not be the more productive time, but it does a good job at making us smile. I’m no expert, but I think the amount of smiling done is a good indicator of healthier, happier living.
