Who needs a smooth transition anyway? That’s never any fun! Well, I’ve arrived in Puerto Rico to meet the Captain and owner of the boat, only to find out the boat hasn’t even been delivered yet due to bad weather, and the owner hasn’t stocked a single thing on his lovely new boat.

Sounds like no big deal, until you consider the size of a 150+ feet, 4 story mansion on the water. This would lead to the fact that my very first day on the job was spent shopping for 15 hours straight. Its hard to believe the size of my shopping list. If you can imagine, a completely bare 5-star mansion AND boat, which needs everything.

Granted, the malls are all outdoors, in the tropics, with palm trees by the ocean etc…but it’s funny how quickly one forgets to notice the beauty when running around trying to sort out a 50 meter boat that’s about to have a new owner and 10 of his closest family/friends on board. Although, did I mention how fun it is to buy your dream bedding, dinnerware, interior decorations, etc. etc. etc. with basically no budget, AND by budget I mean someone else’s credit card??? …. Amazing!

Abbi Yoga I’m the only female crew on board…lots of pros, but lots of cons to this as well. I’ve got my own stateroom (tempurpedic bed, flat-screen, Apple TV, and my own bathroom = the works); and always having the boys wanting to help out and teach me things on deck/outside, but the only problem is they have no idea how to sort the interior let alone run the inside of this “hotel on water,” at all!

I find it amusing and oddly comforting to be sort of the “mother hen” on board. It all goes back to my roots, I suppose, of being a southern belle at heart. The old saying comes to mind: “You can take a girl outta the south, but you can’t take the south outta the girl.”
